Addressing Africa’s learning crisis
In sub-Saharan Africa, the education system faces a critical challenge. 80% of young people are poorly educated, with limited economic prospects. The problem is particularly acute in rural areas, where access to quality education is scarce.
The result is that a staggering 70% of 10-year-olds cannot read basic text, and most children struggle to gain foundational skills in subjects like mathematics.
A digital learning plattform
Edulution was created to address these challenges. Operating in Zambia, Namibia, and South Africa, Edulution is a social enterprise that combines interactive digital learning with human-centred coaching to equip children with vital skills in reading, writing and mathematics. The programme is delivered through digital platforms that allow learners to work at their own pace, ensuring they achieve mastery in core subjects before moving forward. The approach is particularly suited to rural communities, where access to quality education is limited. Through 46 learning centres in Zambia and South Africa, Edulution currently serves over 12,000 students monthly, providing an opportunity to catch up and excel in school.
When Pestalozzi selected me back in Lundazi, everything changed. I received a great education, and I learned the importance of giving back. I now work with Edulution, helping students improve their maths skills using tablet technology.

Education in remote areas even where there is no electricity
By using an offline and off-grid learning platform, Edulution reaches students in the most remote areas, offering a lifeline to those who would otherwise have little access to modern education tools. Edulution’s innovative approach allows students to continue learning even in areas with no internet or electricity, ensuring that no one is left behind.
Empowering youth through technology and coaching
At the heart of Edulution’s success is its team of over 100 coaches, many of whom are former Pestalozzi International students. These coaches play a critical role in facilitating learning, ensuring that students stay motivated and engaged. Using tablets and interactive exercises, learners gain essential skills in subjects like mathematics, digital literacy, and problem-solving—skills that are directly aligned with the demands of modern economies.
Measuring and monitoring for lasting results
Edulution’s unique platform is data-driven, ensuring that learning outcomes are closely monitored and continuously improved. Monthly assessments track student progress, while real-time data helps coaches adapt their teaching methods to meet individual needs. The results speak for themselves: in Zambia, Edulution students outperformed their peers by an average of 23 percentile ranks in mathematics, while in South Africa, students working at their grade level increased from 3% to 27% after just one year in the program.
Building a pathway to employment
Beyond the classroom, Edulution prepares young people for sustainable livelihoods. Many of the program's coaches, initially unemployed youth, have gone on to secure jobs as educators and social entrepreneurs, further contributing to their communities. This focus on employability aligns with Pestalozzi International’s broader mission of fostering leadership and self-reliance.
