Prisca’s Impact in Midwifery and Youth Health

Prisca Mulongo’s journey as a midwife is a testament to the transformative power of education. Growing up in Zambia, she faced significant challenges, including a difficult family environment. However, her life changed when she was selected for the Pestalozzi International program, where she found the support and care that fostered her love for science and inspired her to pursue a career in healthcare. A pivotal experience was witnessing her aunt receive poor medical care, igniting her determination to make a difference.

After graduating from the Pestalozzi Zambia campus, Prisca’s ambition drove her to pursue nursing and midwifery, ultimately becoming a Clinical Instructor for Zambia's Ministry of Health. In her dual roles as a midwife and educator, she provides essential maternal and adolescent health services, especially in rural Zambia, where health resources are scarce. Her work contributes directly to national goals, like reducing maternal mortality, and supports UN Sustainable Development Goals focused on health, well-being, and gender equality.

Through her career, Prisca has impacted thousands, from expectant mothers to young girls needing guidance on sexual and reproductive health. With Zambia facing high poverty levels and a youthful population affected by health crises, her services are vital. By equipping adolescents with health knowledge, she’s reduced teenage pregnancies and STDs, empowering the next generation to make informed decisions.

Prisca’s dedication goes beyond her professional life. She sponsors two young boys and has supported two girls through high school, embodying Pestalozzi’s ethos of “giving back.” For her, helping others is a way to honor the opportunities Pestalozzi provided, saying, “The only way I can pay them back is by helping the next person.”
